BACKGROUND HISTORY

The idea of an information / community office were born when plans were drawn up for a major extension to the village hall. At an open meeting in March 2001 the proposal was put forward that the office could be a focal point for practically everything that goes on in the village. As well as an information point, it could be an administrative centre for the varied range of activities in the village and provide IT facilities for individuals and groups.

Under the auspices of the Village Hall Management Committee, a Community Office Group was formed, which did all the hard work of raising the necessary grants and donations from a wide range of sources to equip the office with modern IT, communications and office equipment. The Community Office Group oversaw the installation and commissioning of the new equipment and bringing together of the volunteer work force.

 

In September 2001, the community office took on its formal title of Watlington Information Centre and a successful opening took place in January 2002, less than 10 months after the first meeting of the working group.
